Weddings in nature in Chile: what a session in the mountains is like

A wedding photographed in the Chilean wilderness is, above all, a session built around light and landscape — not a set of poses in front of a pretty backdrop. We pick a destination that means something to the couple (mountains, native forest, a volcano, the coast), find the hour when that place gives its best light, and capture love and connection as they happen. That is how I approach my Weddings in Nature service, and this guide explains what to expect.
The location is part of the story, not a backdrop
The landscape brings scale and emotion. In the Andean Araucanía, a snow-capped volcano behind a tiny couple says something no venue can. We choose the place together, based on what you love and what is realistic to reach on the day. You do not need a remote summit: many of the best frames are a short walk from where a car can go.
Timing rules: sunrise and last light
The soft light of dawn and the golden hour before sunset transform any landscape, which is why sessions are scheduled in those windows, never at noon. It means an early start or a late finish in the field, but it is the difference between a fine photo and one you hang on the wall. In Patagonia and the Araucanía the weather changes fast; reading it and adapting is part of my job.
Documentary style: no posing for the camera
My approach is documentary: I capture real gestures, movement and connection without directing every pose. I walk with you, we talk, and the photographs appear on their own. The result feels like the day itself, not a studio session moved outdoors — the same spirit I bring to full wedding-day coverage, from ceremony to celebration.
Common logistics questions
- How much walking? As much as you want: some locations are right by the car, others a gentle 20–40 minute walk.
- Pre or post wedding? Both work; a post-wedding shoot lets you wear the dress again without the rush of the day.
- What if it rains? We reschedule or use it: mist and rain make memorable images.
- Do you travel? Yes, within and outside Chile depending on the project.
